Gary Neville has stepped in to cool the rising tension around Liverpool as speculation continues to swirl about Arne Slot’s job security. Despite a rough patch in the Premier League, Neville insists the Liverpool boss is not close to being sacked and urged supporters to ignore the online noise.
Liverpool opened the season with five straight league wins, but even during that streak, their performances weren’t always convincing. Leads slipped, late winners rescued them, and only one clean sheet was recorded. Those early warning signs have now turned into real issues, with the club dropping to 11th in the table and falling 11 points behind Arsenal.
The Reds have won just one of their last seven league matches and have suffered back-to-back 3–0 defeats, sparking growing rumours about Slot’s position. Neville, speaking on his podcast, dismissed the talk entirely. He said there is “no chance” Slot is currently at risk and praised the manager’s presence, composure and the way he represents the club.
Neville admitted Slot is facing a difficult moment and suggested he may need to adjust his approach—especially when Liverpool’s attack-first style isn’t producing results. He believes both the players and the fans will expect tactical changes soon. With nearly £450 million spent on new signings, Neville added that responsibility now sits not just with Slot but with both new arrivals and the club’s senior leaders to steady the team.
Liverpool dominated the ball against Nottingham Forest, taking more shots and completing hundreds more passes, yet still fell to another heavy defeat. Slot refused to criticise his squad after the match and instead took full responsibility, praising both the players and supporters for fighting until the end.
Liverpool now turn their attention to the Champions League as they prepare to host PSV Eindhoven at Anfield. In the Premier League, they travel to face West Ham next, hoping to climb back into the top half and regain momentum.
