The Toronto Blue Jays came painfully close to winning the World Series — and that near-miss might push them into one of the most aggressive offseasons in franchise history.
Toronto has chased superstar free agents before, from Shohei Ohtani to Juan Soto, but rarely closed the deal. Now, after a deep playoff run and a long-term extension for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the franchise suddenly looks like a more appealing destination. And according to FanSided’s Chris Landers, that could be enough to land the biggest name on the market: Kyle Tucker.
Landers predicts that Toronto will ultimately sign the four-time All-Star, who declined the Chicago Cubs’ qualifying offer.
“The vibes are at an all-time high, and we know money has never been an issue for this franchise,” Landers wrote. “If the Yankees, Dodgers, and Cubs don’t want a bidding war, Toronto could finally land their big fish.”
ESPN’s Jeff Passan echoed the sentiment, reporting that rival executives consider the Blue Jays the favorite to land Tucker this winter. With 134 home runs since 2021, Tucker is widely viewed as the top free agent available and a player who would instantly elevate Toronto’s lineup — especially if the club loses Bo Bichette.
Even in what was considered a “down” year, Tucker posted an .841 OPS with 22 home runs, including 15 on the road. His away numbers remained elite, fueling speculation that Wrigley Field played a role in the dip.
Tucker is projected to command a massive deal: 10 years, $401 million.
For the Blue Jays, it would be a franchise-shifting investment — and it would cost draft compensation since he rejected Chicago’s qualifying offer. But pairing Tucker with Guerrero Jr. and a World Series-ready roster might finally push Toronto over the championship hump.
